DC Department of Health Obesity Action Plan 2010-2015The plan calls for the greater District of Columbia community to coalesce and adopt policies and programs that both increase the access to healthy foods and physical activity in neighborhoods, schools, worksites, and places of worship and also build capacity and jobs related to increasing access to healthy food, physical activity, and preventive health services. Additionally, the plan provides a framework of specific interventions to achieve local targets of reducing overweight and obesity by changing attitudes and behaviors to promote physical activity, good nutrition and the benefits of a healthy weight.

Sustainable DC PlanThis 2012 citywide plan sets goals to make the District of the Columbia the healthiest, greenest and most livable city in the country. The Plan has specific goals for growing food, food business and access to food.

Sustainable DC Food Access and Security Task Force ReportThis is the Sustainable DC Mayor’s Order Food Access and Security Task Force, led by the Office of Planning’s study of the accessibility of healthy food in neighborhoods by evaluating existing conditions for food access, urban agriculture, and agricultural economy in the District. The report provides recommendations to increase the accessibility of healthy affordable foods and the reduction of food insecurity of District residents consistent with the goals identified in the Sustainable DC Plan.

Montgomery County Food CouncilThe Montgomery County Food Council is an independent council formed and led by individual community members and representatives of local businesses, government, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions that broadly represent the food system both substantively and geographically. Our mission is to bring together a diverse representation of stakeholders in a public and private partnership to improve the environmental, economic, social and nutritional health of Montgomery County, Maryland through the creation of a robust, local, sustainable food system.

Prince George’s County Food Equity CouncilThe mission of the Prince George’s County Food Equity Council is to significantly improve public health and community well-being of all who live, work, study, worship and play in the County. It will develop and support policies, approaches, procedures, practices and initiatives to create systemic change to the local food system, promoting health, economic opportunity, food security, and well-being, especially among communities that have been negatively impacted by the current food system.
